A bezel holds the diamond inside a rim of metal that follows the girdle, the outer edge of the stone. Instead of gripping at a few points, as prongs do, the rim closes around the whole edge and is pressed down until it lies flush. That all-around hold gives the Penumbra its clean, closed outline.
It encircles the diamond with a smooth metal rim, while a prong solitaire lifts the stone in small raised claws. The bezel rests lower and covers the edge of the diamond, which protects it and gives a clean, modern line, and prongs raise the stone and open more of it to light.
This setting suits an active, hands-on lifestyle because the Penumbra’s rounded rim maintains a low, even profile, with nothing raised for a knock to catch. The metal stays close to the stone and shields its edges, so the ring stays out of the way for someone who works with their hands often.
